Custom landscape design, Brisbane.

Land meets art. Gardens designed and built in Brisbane since 2000.

Custom landscape design in Brisbane from a landscape designer who builds what he draws. Duncan Scott has designed and built every Simply Intreeging garden since 2000, and no two are the same — stone, water, fire, timber and planting, put together so the place still holds you after dark.

Who you are dealing with

Designed and built by one pair of hands.

Duncan Scott has been building gardens in south-east Queensland since 2000. Simply Intreeging works out of Dayboro and takes on work across Dayboro, Samford, Moreton Bay and across Brisbane’s inner north — Ashgrove, Grange, Nundah and surrounds.

What he is known for is the arty end of it: a twist of retro, a Corten panel where a fence would have done, a stone wall lit so the garden still works at night.

“I love creating really arty and unique gardens — fire pits, outdoor seating, ponds, feature stone walls, outdoor areas, bird attracting garden.”

— Duncan Scott, Simply Intreeging

More about Duncan

Three things, done properly

Design. Construction. Maintenance.

Design

A costed concept on paper before anyone digs.

Construction

Stone, structure, water, paving and planting, built by the designer.

Maintenance

Ongoing care so the garden keeps the shape it was designed to hold.

Signature work

The pieces people remember.

Stone that was chosen from a sample in your hand. Screens cut to a pattern that moves across the ground all afternoon. Lighting designed in from the start, not bolted on at the end.

On investment

The number is your decision, not a surprise.

There is no price list, because no two gardens are the same job. What there is instead is certainty. After a couple of hours on site you get a concept on paper — every element you discussed, costed, with an approximate time frame — before anyone picks up a shovel.

Tell Duncan the figure you are comfortable with and the design is built to it. If the whole garden is more than you want to commit to now, it gets staged, so the second stage never fights the first.

Start with a consultation

How it works

A concept on paper, before anyone digs.

01

The call

Tell Duncan what’s bothering you about the space. If it’s in Dayboro, Samford or across Brisbane, he’ll come and look.

02

On site

A couple of hours on preferences, materials and budget. Stone samples and plant images so you can see the options. A consultancy fee may apply — if it does, you’ll be told the figure before anything is booked.

03

The concept

A unique landscape concept sketched on paper — with costings and an approximate time frame.

04

The build

Demolition, structure, stone, paving, irrigation and planting — managed start to finish.

05

The handover

Walked through the finished garden, told what needs doing and when. Then it’s yours.

Design and consultancy work may be charged as a fee. Where it applies, it is quoted up front — never added afterwards.

Questions

Before you call.

The money questions first, because they are the ones that decide whether a garden is worth drawing.

A real one. There is no list price, because no two gardens are the same job — this is design-and-build work: stone, structure, water, lighting and mature planting, drawn for your site and built by a licensed builder. It is an investment in the property rather than a mow-and-go quote. The useful part is that you set the number. Tell Duncan the figure you are comfortable with at the consultation and he will tell you honestly what it will and will not buy, before you commit to anything.

Because it is the only way to design something you can actually build. The process runs outwards from the number: you name the budget, Duncan draws a concept that fits it, you get every element costed with an approximate time frame in writing, and the build only starts once you are happy with what is on the paper. Holding the figure back does not get you a cheaper garden — it gets you a concept that has to be pulled apart later.

Duncan treats a garden as a piece of art rather than a product off a list. Alongside the builder licence and the horticulture qualification he holds a Certificate in Commercial Art, which is why every job begins as a drawing. What he is known for is the arty end of it — a twist of retro, a laser-cut Corten panel where a fence would have done, a stone wall lit so the garden still reads after dark. If you want the same garden as the neighbours, he is the wrong person to call.

No. Every concept is drawn for the one site — its aspect, its soil, its outlook and the way the people living there actually use it. Duncan deliberately takes on a small number of gardens each year so that each one is designed from scratch instead of assembled from a catalogue.

A couple of hours on site going through your preferences, a material wish list and your budget. Stone samples and plant images are on hand so you can see and touch the options rather than imagine them. Nothing is dug until the concept is agreed.

A unique landscape concept sketched on paper, with every element you discussed costed and an approximate time frame for completion. It is built for people who cannot easily picture an idea from a description: you see the garden before you spend on it, and changing it on paper costs nothing.

No. Plenty of jobs start as one feature wall, one path or one planted bed. A concept plan is useful precisely because it lets you build in stages without the second stage fighting the first.

Duncan Scott. The person who designs the garden is the person who builds it — not a salesperson, and not a subcontractor you have never met. He has been building gardens in south-east Queensland since 2000, under the one name.

Yes. Duncan holds a Queensland builder licence for structural landscaping, licence 1161156, so retaining walls, structures and the rest of the structural work are carried out as licensed work. The plant choices sit behind an Associate Applied Science in Horticulture.

Duncan managed a full front and side demolish & rebuild of my garden. The work was extensive for the modest budget I had and Duncan facilitated all aspects including tree & bush removal, brick wall builds, gate install, concrete steps…

Duncan replied: Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, always rise to a challenge and the end result is the best reward. Thanking you again — Duncan

We asked Duncan to design our landscaping as we were indecisive with what we wanted. After our initial consultation Duncan came back to us with 2 detailed drawings of what he thought would look amazing. We sat down with him and he asked…

Duncan replied: Awesome guys… thanks and enjoy your garden.

Duncan from Simply Intreeging was fantastic from beginning to end. He was able to drop by promptly, then was happy to discuss a whole variety of possibilities before we settled on one we liked. He remained flexible throughout the project…

Enquiry

Tell Duncan about the space.

Step 1 of 5

What are you planning?

Pick anything that applies. If you don’t know yet, say so — that is a normal place to start.

How much of the garden?

A single feature is a perfectly good place to begin. So is the whole block.

What are you comfortable investing?

An honest range, not a commitment. It is the fastest way to a concept that is buildable — and the work can always be staged. If you have no idea yet, pick the last one.

When would you like it done?

Design and build take time. Knowing your window helps Duncan tell you honestly what is possible.

Where do we send the answer?

This goes straight to Duncan. He calls back himself.

Prefer to talk? Call or text 0431 024 000 — that always works.

That’s with Duncan.

He reads every enquiry himself and calls back — usually the same day, and always before he books anything in.
